- It's not asking you to log in to your ISP. It's asking for a password
- to log you in to AmiTCP. You should have been prompted to provide a
- password as part of the installation procedure when you gave your
- username, real name and home directory. This information is placed in
- the file AmiTCP:db/passwd. When you log in, if your username and
- password match an entry in that file, AmiTCP sets the $USER, $LOGNAME
- and $HOME variables and assigns HOME: to your home directory.
-
- If you've previously created a password and can't remember it, just
- edit your entry in db/passwd to remove the (encrypted) password
- field for your entry - it's the characters between the first and
- second vertical bars '|':
-
- phil|xka4Hi6M|200|100|Philip Stokes|DH4:usr/phil|shell
- ^^^^^^^^
-
- The entry should then look similar to this:
-
- phil||200|100|Philip Stokes|DH4:usr/phil|shell
-
- You can then type 'passwd' in a shell and follow the prompts to set
- a new password. If you are using AmiTCP 4.2, and you made yourself
- the default user during installation, you can avoid having to type
- your password every time you start AmiTCP if you have 'login -f <user>'
- in your Startnet script (The installer puts it in by default).
-
- If you're using AmiTCP 4.0 you will have to enter it every time you
- start AmiTCP, unless you make do without a password (by deleting the
- password field in db/passwd as outlined above).
